The Name = Illustrious

What is a name? Multitudinous mortals at no account envisaged apropos the name entrusted by their progenitor. Kindred the woman who revere herself eminently that she repudiates spurning any facet of it. She surmises that a name can succor sculpt the future but not ascertain it. Jc Belle Anasario is the name, and she dote it with all her bosom, psyche, intellect, and matter. It may be lengthy, but she’ll expound why she perceives the name coequal to illustrious.

Her forename signifies the motto of all earthlings she knows. Jc stands for “Just courage” and this locution is the universal rejoinder to all things tellurian are into, but in depth interior of their encephalon they will invariably fall short. Jc to boot may delineate the two most utilized verbs in the globe, “Jump catch.” “Hey buddy, catapulting something, jump and catch”. It can also be the unification of the first character of her guardian’s given name. A multitude of odds but all that matters was that the name “Jc” had two facile syllables, which made it quintessential for the old fogy to enunciate. Just like that.

While most dictionaries would define Belle as a very attractive and a popular girl, yet she detests to be designated just prepossessing and sought-after. Just like what Fitzgerald said, “She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the magazines. She was beautiful for the way she thought. She was beautiful for that sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. No, she was not beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul’. For her the name “Belle” stands for repetitive alarm. Belle, bell, ring, ding and dong. Integrate it with “Just Courage”. The epithet already entails for courageous repetitive alarm. It may give the impression of being convoluted and deficient purport, but yes it is what it is. It is a courageous alarm. She may be tough but amiable, chic but idiosyncratic. A girl with flamboyant spirit but actually a low-key achiever, she is a beautiful contradiction.

As the female investigates more re her name, she transpired across a website called namekun.com.  It postulated “affairs of the Corazon will always be a paramount” for an Anasario. Rationale perpetually suffers the loss inimical to sentiments enclosing her zest. Thin-skinned, munificent and undertake what the heart inclines but sporadically can induce grubby locus. In succinct, Anasario means the muscular organ that pumps blood will unfailingly be consulted first and that reveals as to who she is. An immensely solicitous inhabitant, tender, and hunt for the welfare of her compatriot all the time. Ergo bonds are incarcerated in her being.

Ipso facto every name exhibits its particular dominance that can ponderously impact the existence of an independent, thus molding such an individual to revise his lifestyle in correspondence to the power associated with such a name.  In cessation, it is bona fide that names vie a substantial mantle in the lives of Homo sapiens in the society. Divergent names mean unalike things. The major role of naming is to vouchsafe some sort of identification to the thing in question. Living souls accord exotic names to themselves or to their offspring with regard to a sundry of factors, such as mores, phenomenon, or dub subsequently some prominent individuals or departed relatives in the society. So who does not love that type of name? Courageous, repetitive alarm with a heart. Jc Belle Anasario, signing off.

Back to School

                    August 25, 2014.
The month is almost over. Other schools are finished with their Prelims, while Midterms is fast approaching. Yet here I am, still clinging in the thought that summer is not yet over. This academic year shift is making me anxious plus add the pressure of being a College Scholar last semester. I'm not yet ready to face my professors, and most especially to answer the brain-cracking quizzes and long exams. But

The Path Less Taken

The University of the Philippines student, also known as "Iskolar ng Bayan", is one of the greatest desires of every Filipino student. In accordance to the Charter of 2008 (RA 9500) or The Mandate as The National University, being an Iskolar is more than how it seems to be, because to be one is an honor coupled with huge responsibilities and an expectation to excel in the chosen career. There are many courses to choose from, professors that will challenge choices, and good quality education. Each Isko may have different paths. Some may pursue a career in science; others may become doctors and some may be world renounced artists, dancers, singers and many more. The path is long, rocky and expectations are conveyed here and there. Like what Winnie Monsod a UP economics professor said in her annual patriotic pep talk “Students are encouraged to stay in the Philippines after graduation and work in the country and give back to the society who paid for the tuition fee”.

Fulfilling one’s promise and potential as a university student, Iskolars ng Bayan are in a position to be a part of the solution to this country's problems, not a part of the problem. Iskolars ng Bayan, define honor as fulfilling our duties to the people. Define excellence in the context of advancing the students and the people’s interests at all times. State universities as defined in Merriam Webster are maintained and administered by the state as part of the state public educational system. Students are expected to finish their chosen paths and succeed in their career. But people just often look at the bigger picture to celebrate honor and excellence. From near-perfect-GWA graduates to Scientist III to being a well-known Oncologist, excellence is expected. But what if an Isko took a path less traveled? What if he did not pursue his chosen career? Will he be called a traitor?, a question that is also asked by the author of a blog Kikomatching a former UP student and now works as Overseas Filipino Worker.

Like an OFW, not all can have a white collar job. They are just trying to earn a decent living overseas, are they betraying the Philippines? While it is a must to work in the country to help in its recovery, where do graduates go?, if there is no better job. By working abroad, it entails a lot of sacrifices with every penny that they earn. The blog author adds, “Many working overseas are trying to give honor while striving for excellence. This is their way of giving back to the country while in the process of helping their families”.

An excerpt from Isaiah Paolo A. Lee’ s speech “ A Graduate’s take on Honor and Excellence”, mentions, Are you going to be a full-time parent because you had a successful relationship? You might proudly send your child to UP only to learn that your precious Iskolar ng Bayan has turned into a class-cutting, DRP collecting, tuition-burning machine despite your warnings. Wake them up in the morning, give them their allowance, and support them without nagging. See to it that they march and that you get to be with them. That is honor and excellence.

The fight for the path does not end here. As Iskolars ng Bayan strive to do well in everything. Every Isko is different. All may have started in different paths, but with one goal: Honor and Excellence. These different paths may merge into one same end and that is to serve the country in their own simple ways. According to the statement of the UP Diliman published in Agham Youth Online, “We seek leaders who refuse to remain in the top, and who will instead keep their feet on the ground with direct and concrete actions to help the people”. Elvin B. Cruz a magna cum laude BS Civil Engineering graduate of UP Diliman once said “Iskolars ng Bayan must understand that honor comes first before excellence and must not sacrifice integrity in pursuit of glory”. But who can really help the people; honor and excellence from every Isko out there, every single day. Doing well is good, but doing it for the people would be better.

Blood-sucking student

A four-year course, Bachelor of Science in Public Health (formerly known as Bachelor of Science in Hygiene) is designed to provide students with academic and practical training in the basic health sciences. Often compared to the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (BS MT) program, BS Public Health (BS PH) differs in a lot of areas. Both may have similar subjects but BS PH is focuses more on promoting health, preventing diseases and protecting communities. According to Republic Act no. 5527 Section 8, both BS MT and BS PH programs can take the annual registration for medical technologists. As future medical technologists, students are trained to do different clinical laboratory procedures such as blood typing, urinalysis, fecalysis and venipuncture. Venipuncture is done for the purpose of withdrawing blood for hematological, biochemical or bacteriological analysis. It is one of the basic skills students need to master to be a full grown public health associate.

Getting to know patients may not usually be written in books but it is the first step in performing a venipuncture. As presented in class, tourniquet application a device (usually rubber) that checks bleeding or blood flow by compressing blood vessels is done for easier inspection of the vein. After locating the vein, clean using a cotton pad soaked in 70% isopropyl alcohol. Make sure the bevel or the slanted surface or edge of the needle is up before inserting and the patient is closing their fist. Start pulling the plunger a part of syringe that moves up and down inside the tube if the vein was hit and continue until needed volume is achieved. After getting the needed blood tell the patient to open their fist and remove the tourniquet. Stop the bleeding by putting cotton and applying pressure. Lastly remove the needle as fast as you can.

Eventually, after several lectures, the day of performing our own venipunctures came and us noisy students fidget in our seats. A friend who acted as my patient was waiting while I kept swallowing saliva to mask my fear as I had no idea on what I was about to do. I knew I had to do it quickly but carefully to disperse the crowd made up of my teacher and classmates criticizing my every move. As I calmed myself that is when the problem arose, I cannot palpate the vein and I needed to do it. It was a blind-shot. I inserted the syringe without caring for the outcome. Two minutes passed and still no blood inside the needle. That is when the teacher came to the rescue. My friend was hurt but as expected, the vein was not hit and the teacher did it instead. It was embarrassing and disappointing. Friends comforted me after but I could not erase the fact that I was a failure.

Nothing changes without pressure. Every day I look for an expert to extract blood from me to not just experience but also to see firsthand the process of venipuncture. Finally, Sir Rommel Gestuveo, my anatomy and histopathology teacher agreed. If I was fast, Sir Rommel was swift. Unfortunately, he was pressured due to the presence of two registered medical technologist faculty from the biology division resulting to a collapsed vein and collection of blood lesser than the required volume. Still, no one can stop me. At home I would practice with my brothers. Even our laboratory technician, Mrs. Tess Go, a registered medical technologist agreed to extract blood from me. I was not sure if she was feeling ill because she just recovered from pneumonia or I was just unlucky because yet again, the blood extraction was a failure. I was devastated and losing hope.

According to Barack Obama, "We did not come to fear the future. We came here to shape it". They may never stop comparing Medical Technology to Public Health and say we are not competent to take the Medical Technologist board exam but we do not listen to them. Don’t mind and just always strive in everything and it will all be worth it. After a few awful attempts and bruising my own family, I know I am ready. I know I have learned. As we met again for our venipuncture activity I successfully extracted 5 cc of blood from my schoolmates earning a very good on my grading card. My teacher regarded me as the most improved student. Do you want to know my secret? Be confident.

Insights

Look who's updating a blog even though everybody's enjoying the Christmas season. Hi! It's me again. Who wouldn't be bored if you are destined to do nothing everyday. It seems my life is so monotonous. One reason I'm praying to fast forward the opening of classes. Even though it has it's disadvantages :(
University of the Philippines is not like any normal university in the Philippines. We don't have their prelims and midterms. We only have our finals. But sure we do have lots of long exams and endless schoolwork. So can I rephrase it? Can we please fast forward to the opening of classes minus the endless schoolworks and long exams :'(

Comm3 Speech

They say experience is the best teacher. Have you ever experience hellweek. Have you ever felt like you wanna give up? As if the acads are killing you? You did your best but it's still not enough? Well I've experienced that recently. Your friends are partying while you are at home studying. My interviewee also experienced that And I bet you also did.
Her name is Remedios Monica Quitasol but she prefers to be called Nikki. Entered the university of the Philippines last June 2007 as a freshman with a course of Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.
She liked Chemistry but not as much as she loves Mathematics. Actually she passed the upcat exam for the applied mathematics course But her father wanted her to get an engg course for better opprtunities abroad and it was kind of his frustration when he was her age. When she was 2nd/3rd yr, her mom kept on asking if she wanted to shift courses like accountancy, but then she said she have started with this so she'll just finish it. and at 21/22yo she thinks she know better what she wants to go into for her career than when she was starting college.
She thinks her greatest failure was not making it to the top10 when she took the board exam. She was very frustrated because she knew she could make it and that time she really put a lot of effort when she was still reviewing and even her teacher expected btw the topnotcher was her seatmate. good thing she had her family and friends beside because She really hates failing.
She graduated last April 2012 and one of the pioneer batch of BS Chem Eng. She worked at Teletech for 2 months and also became a part-time tutor. Now she is currently teaching in Sotech, University of the Philippines Visayas.
So if I did quit last week who will give you some speech about experiences? You may be under the Ferris wheel right now just wait it will eventually rise. So who still disagrees that experience is the best teacher?

Tintin Ramos

Hey. This is me and my bestie Tintin. We’ve known eachother for like four years, and it’s safe so say that we’ve been besties from the first day we met. Months ago, Tintin moved across my world. Okay I know it's kinda exaggerated. She's now studying in La Salle, Manila and I'm in University of the Philippines Visayas. Instead of a couple of meters between us, there’s 585.4 kilometers between us. It's 13 hours and 3 minutes by walk? Idk I just googled it.
So I really just want to tell her that I’m really proud of her, that I wish she was here.  And that even though I sometimes get mad about stupid thing, that I still love her. Always and Forever.
You’re one of the bestest friend (if there is such a word) somebody could ever have. <3
